The Currents Coin commemorates Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison’s rival visions for the future of electricity.  The “War of Currents”, of the late 19th century, is generally represented as having been a fierce rivalry between Tesla’s Alternating Current (AC) and Edison’s Direct Current (DC) electrical transmission systems.  As with any defining technological movements, the electrical infrastructure we rely on today is a mix of precedents set by strong willed historical figures and logical developments in science and engineering.  The rivalry between AC and DC will rage on as long as our evolving wants and needs compel us to invent new power hungry technologies.
